Table tennis is the fastest sport in the world
And, of course, to play it, you need to have a phenomenal reaction speed. Of course, everyone knows that a table tennis table should have a size of about 2.74 m by 1.52 m, the ball should be 40 mm in diameter, and it can fly at a maximum speed of 180 km/h. But few people think about what kind of reaction speed a person must have in order to play table tennis! Three strokes per second – such results can be given by table tennis professionals like TimoBoll or ChristianSuss.
Their ball can spin around its axis up to 50 times per second and touch the racket in only 1/10,000 of a second. It seems very fast! But lets compare. If we take other sports, then at first glance the speed of the ball in table tennis will seem very slow. In squash, the ball flies at a speed of 230 km / h, in tennis – 249 km / h, in golf – 326 km / h, and finally, the world record in badminton is 414 km / h.
However, it must be remembered that the distance between opponents or between the player and his goal in all these sports is very different from table tennis. That is, the ball really flies out at great speed, but due to high air resistance it gradually slows down and comes to the player or to the hole much, much more slowly.
