47th Murmansk Ski Marathon: Beginning

In the capital of the Polar region came skiers who are among the best Russian and foreign marathontes.
This year, athletes from the Murmansk region are fighting for the medals of the 86th holiday of the North, representatives of more than 55 subjects of Russia and 11 countries of the world – Switzerland, Norway, Holland, Australia, Bulgaria, Republic of Belarus, Sweden, Israel, Slovakia, Germany and Latvia.
At the start of the race with a free style of participants and fans, the head of the region Andrei Chibis welcomed the head of the region.
The traditional ski marathon is the pride of the feast of the North. I am glad that this year the stable situation with Coronavirus allowed us to carry out such large-scale sports competitions. Murmansk is the capital of the Arctic, so the main ski marathon of the country is running on our land, said the Governor Andrei Chibis.
Preceded the main start of the marathon children's race Marsh kids. It was attended by children from 5 to 7 years.
Pupils of pre-school institutions of the Murmansk region overcame a specially prepared highway 200 meters long.
Then more than 1000 athletes came to the ski in the Murmansk Valley of the Utut. It is worth noting that among them there was our countryman, a well-deserved master of sports of Russia, the bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in the Ski Racing in the team sprint Alexei Petukhov.
At 11 o'clock, the main event of the Polar Olympiad – the 47th Murmanskaya Marathon was launched in the comfort valley.
The winner of 25 km free style was the Master of Sports of the Russian Federation on the ski racing Dmitry Chekulaev from Mari El.
The second came Master of Sports on the orienteering of Grigory Sokolov from the Republic of Komi. The third place was able to conquer Muscovite Valentina Andreev.
The winner of the Murmansk Ski Marathon was a free style of 50 km, a resident of Monchegorsk Ekaterina Buryanin was.
Silver received Ekaterina Avvakumov from Karelia, and Bronze – Rada Tarasenko from the Yaroslavl region.
Among the men's 50 km free style was the first to be Raul Shakirzyanov from the Perm Territory.Behind him finished Mikhail Semyonov from the Republic of Belarus. Third place in the race was won by a skier from the Republic of Sakha Dmitry Ploskonosov.
On Sunday, March 28, the second day of the competition will take place in the Murmansk Valley of Comfort.
Skiers will have to overcome distances of 25 km and 50 km in classic style. The start of the competition will also be given at 11 o'clock.
